In short I had to learn the lesson I learned everywhere, living there: that we are beloved here, welcomed, part of the family, but not the center of it, and there are consequences for thinking so. Being the center: allowed to go anywhere, do anything without regard for whoever I might disturb. In a world so full of everyone, such a thing isn’t possible; the world doesn’t bend to our will except through deep violence to ourselves and others. And yet, too; we are loved, just for being here.
